Weekend Events: Paddling, Kayaking, Charity and History

This Weekend’s Events List has a whole lot of paddling and kayaking on it, so get your arms all stretched and ready to go!  Give the biceps a break between paddling and/or kayaking to learn about the local history or by supporting two local families at a benefit on Saturday evening.  Check out the list for more details on everything happening this weekend!

Sunset Kayak Paddle at False Cape – Friday at 5:30 pm
Explore Back Bay and its marshes by kayak at False Cape State Park as the sun is setting over the bay. Kayaks and equipment are provided. No paddling experience necessary. Reservations are required. Call (757) 426-7128 to sign up. 

LiveBlue SUP Yoga Paddle Out – Saturday at 9:30 am
Join Good Vibes Yoga and Beach SUP and Fitness on a Karma yoga paddle out that benefits The Back Bay Restoration Foundation.  $30 per person.

Surf Love Hope Benefit – Saturday at 7:oo pm
Surf Love Hope and the Hampton Roads Charitable Fund are throwing a totally rad 80’s themed benefit to support the Normile & Fentress families.  Check out the flyer for more info.

Kayak Fishing Tour with Surf & Adventure – Sunday at 9:00 am
Reel in a catch with Virginia Tech Bass Fishing Team Member and local angler Evan Shearer at this Surf and Adventure sponsored event.  The three hour tour begins at 9:00 am and all fishing gear will be provided.

Early Bird Kayak Paddle – Sunday at 9:00 am
Explore the marshes of Back Bay by kayak while observing marsh birds and other wildlife. Kayaks and equipment are provided. No paddling experience is necessary. The cost is $20/person. Reservations are required. Call (757) 426-7128 to sign up.

Wash Wood History Tour- Sunday at 9:00 am
Take a scenic tram ride through Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge to the site of the historic Wash Woods community in what is now False Cape State Park. Hike the one-mile (round-trip) nature trail to the church and cemetery site where the steeple and gravestones remain. Call (757) 301-7329. Cost: $8/adults; $6/children & seniors.

Free SUP Clinic at Surf & Adventure – Sunday at 1:00 pm
This is the fourth of five sessions and will cover the principles of the bow draw-to-sweep stroke.  There will also be a raffle for SUP gear and local Sandbridge restaurants Zest, Baja, Boardwok, Back Bay Gourmet and Sandbridge Island!
