Yikes! Billy Ficke was considering surfing Monday morning when a bus-size humpback whale changed his mind. Ficke, 20, stopped by Sandbridge around 7:30 a.m. to check out the waves, ready to dash home for his longboard. Good thing he had his camera instead. He had just crossed the dune line when a humpback whale exploded out of the water near the surf line.

BACK BAY REFUGE TO CLOSE FOR ANNUAL HUNT
Virginia Beach, VA – Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge will hold its annual hunt for white- tailed deer from Monday, October 26 through Wednesday, October 28th.
Come to the 30th Annual Flyway Feast October 24th from 12 to 5 pm at the historic Flyway Hunt Club just off Princes Anne Road to celebrate BBRF’s 30th anniversary and a healthier Back Bay ecosystem.
The forecast models continue to indicate a track for Hurricane Joaquin offshore of the United States East Coast from the Carolinas to the mid-Atlantic, and the threat of direct impacts from Joaquin in those areas is decreasing.
