2012 Baja Surf Classic – September 16

Baja Surf Classic September 16 2012Get stoked!  The much anticipated 2012 Baja Semi-Annual Surf Classic is just a month away!  On Sunday, September 16, surfers from the local area will meet up at Little Island Park for some friendly competition.  After the surf contest there will be a pizza party and awards ceremony at the Baja Restaurant.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  Below is information on Cystic Fibrosis and why owner of the Baja Restaurant, Jim Reeve, has chosen this foundation as an event beneficiary:

“Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic life-threatening disease that causes mucus to build up and clog some of the organs in the body, particularly the lungs. Recent studies have shown that exposure to saltwater mist hydrates the linings of the lungs and actually assist in the elimination of the mucus. These developments came from surfers in Australia. There are now several groups in Hawaii and California that take CF patients surfing as a natural treatment for this disease. This year, we hope to expand our contest to include a surf clinic on Saturday to allow local CF patients the opportunity to surf and feel the positive effects of the ocean.”

Organizers of the event are seeking donations in the form of prizes, items, cash, gift certificates, etc.  Donations will be raffled at the Surf Classic After Party.  Click here to make an online donation.  Volunteers are also needed for the surf clinic as well as the competition.  If you are able to contribute either by providing a donation or volunteering please contact Jim Reeve at 757-589-1069 or Summer Lane at 757-641-3421.

Want to sign up to compete in the surf contest?  Jim Reeve will provide us with Surf Classic entry forms in the upcoming week.  Please check back often for updates on this awesome event!
